JUNE

SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 2011: Lancaster Farmland Trust Pedal to Preserve 2011. 8am at the Garden Spot Village (433 South Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA 17557). Enjoy a morning of food, fun, cycling, and some of the most beautiful countryside you can imagine as you pedal through Lancaster County's preserved farmland. Pedal to Preserve offers something for all ages and all rider levels with rides of 6, 20, and 51 miles. For more information or to register, click here.

SATURDAY, JUNE 18, 2011: Home Energy Sustainaiblity Foru. Round table discussion forum for people who want to know more about energy efficiency, saving money on energy costs and making their homes greener and more comfortable. SUNDAY, JUNE 19, 2011: Hike the Wingfield Pines Conservation Area. Tour the AMD system and identify wildflowers with the Botanical Society of Western Pennsylvania. For more information, contact the Stewardship Coordinator Emilie Cooper at ecooper@alleghenylandtrust.org or 412-741-2750.

SATURDAY, JUNE 25, 2011: Bird and Nature Walk. 8am at the John James Audubon Center at Mill Grove. Join Audubon Pennsylvania for a morning bird walk and nature exploration. JULY

WEDNESDAY, JULY 6, 2011: Vermicomposting Workshop. 7 to 9pm at the Mt. Lebanon Library. Learn about the benefits of composting with worms at this workshop presented by the Pennsylvania Resources Council! Class participants will learn how to house, feed, harvest and care for their own worms. Be prepared to roll-up your sleeves and make your own worm composting bin! Each participant or couple will be provided with a bin, instructions, and worms. For more information, click here.

SATURDAY, JULY 16, 2011: Night Songs. 7pm at the Trexler Nature Preserve. During the day, we rely a great deal on our sense of sight to guide us. Darkness takes the edge off our vision and brings our other senses more into play. Sounds seems louder. Smells appear to be more intense. Join the Wildlands Conservancy to experience the transition between day and night from the roof of the nature center. After the sun sets, the group will navigate the trails under the light of a full moon without flashlights. Fee: Adults/$10 Children/$5. Register by 7/9/11. For more information, click here.

JULY 19th through 24th, 2011 : Greenway Sojourn. Join the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy this July for the 9th Annual Greenway Sojourn, a five- or six-day heritage tour of Pennsylvania by rail-trail. Rails-to-Trails Conservancy (RTC) has hosted the Greenway Sojourn since 2002. Almost 2,500 people, representing every state in the country, have participated in these memorable bicycle rides, experiencing the joys and benefits of rail-trails and the communities that support them. FRIDAY, JULY 22, 2011: Young Naturalists Program. 1 to 2pm at the John James Audubon Center at Millgrove. This nature-based series is designed for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Come learn about insects, amphibians, mammals, and birds through songs, crafts, and stories. Free for Audubon members, $5.00 nonmembers per program or $10.00 for the series. TUESDAY, JULY 26, 2011: Learn about Lichens. 6pm to 8pm at the Fern Hollow Greenway. Matthew Opdyke of Point Park University will lead a two-hour walk that will feature local lichens and moss species and what they live on.
